History

In 1980, Stan Head, a Master of Music Education graduate had the entrepreneurial drive to pioneer a percussionist-only music school. By 1981 Stan became staff percussionist for Lindenwood Christian Church and recruited students for private lessons. These lessons through years of growth, implementation of leading-edge instructional and mentoring have become full-scale programs of Mid-South Percussion Productions.

Under Stan's careful and strategic leadership there are no single milestones that standout in the history of the studio. Rather, an overall milestone is that under Stan's guidance he has affected steady growth to build Mid-South Percussion Productions into a quality training facility that has a reputation for turning out percussionists who are scholarship material at the leading colleges and universities.

His original ideas are still central to the core of the studio and in a classic tradition have not changed, and perhaps never need to. Those ideas include: building an educational institution that allows young percussionists, who have high musical aspirations, to fulfill their aspirations under the guidance of a professional mentor, in professional surroundings, with access to the best of equipment and resources.

Mid-South Percussion Productions is more about how its students benefit from involvement from a life-long perspective than it is a list of our historical achievements, and we have them. If the student is committed we will improve their performance level. If the student has the talent, commits to a dedicated practice routine, and gives us the time, then we will develop their confidence, skill level, and performance/auditioning skills to a level sufficient to secure a scholarship with a performing arts program, which today has a high market value.
